Ste Anne Resort supports learning at Anse Aux Pins school |12 August 2014

Pupils of Anse Aux Pins primary school now have more pedagogical tools to help them in their studies.

This follows the setting up of an audiovisual room at the school by the Beachcomber Sainte Anne Resort & Spa in collaboration with the school’s management.

The new facility was officially opened last Thursday during  a ceremony attended by the Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon, Minister for Environment and Energy Professor Rolph Payet, the principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, proportionally elected member of the National Assembly Sylvianne Valmont, the  general manager of Beachcomber Sainte Anne Resort & Spa Norbert Couvreur, director for primary schools Cyril Pillay, the head teacher of Anse Aux Pins primary school Kathleen Samson , pupils, among other guests.

The audiovisual room, which can also be used as a recreational room, is equipped with a new LED 50 inches television set, a sound system equipped with DVD and CD along with educational games such as chess and other board games.

Sainte Anne Resort also contributed in refurbishing the classroom which has been transformed into the audiovisual room and put up new curtains as well as brought in new furniture.

The idea for such a facility was initiated by the financial controller of Beachcomber Sainte Anne Resort & Spa Kevin Vadamootoo after meeting the head teacher of the school and another member of the management team.

“We are convinced that visual aids are essential pedagogical tools in the education system that our kids receive here at Anse Aux Pins primary,” Mr Vadamootoo told all those present.

When addressing the guests Mr Couvreur said: “We have a staunch belief in promoting warmest relations with our community neighbours. It is a policy deeply imbedded in our quest for upgrading competence, developing talents among young Seychellois and offering aid to the most vulnerable. We shall pursue our actions in all the ways we can in the future for the ultimate benefit of our social partners.”

Two pupils from the school accepted educational games from Mr Couvreur on behalf of the school and the ministry.

Anse Aux Pins primary school has nearly 500 pupils and most of them will have the opportunity to benefit from the new tools for their individual development as well as for team work in small project with video footage on fundamental civic values.

The Sainte Anne resort has a long-term policy to support youth development and educational projects hence the reason why in February this year pupils of Anse Aux Pins primary were initiated to the game of golf by an international golf coach.

The reflection adopted for the ceremony was gratitude and in line with that two students presented a gift as a token of their appreciation to the general manager and financial controller of the resort.

For her part Ms Samson said: “It is indeed very warming when you know that your neighbour cares for you. The resort has always shown great interest in the development of our pupils.”

“I can still recall the time when our pupils had to use only chalk and talk, but now new technology is contributing in a better way to support the curriculum. This is why this project, generously offered, is a defining advantage for studies,” she said.

“It gives a new dimension to our pedagogical methods which blends practical work with leisure,” Ms Samson added.
The ceremony ended with a medley of thank you songs.
