Local farmer back’s beauty queen’s ‘back to basic’ campaign |30 August 2014

Miss Seychelles ... Another World Camila Estico has upped her battle to promote her ‘back to basic’ campaign which is geared towards fighting obesity and upholding healthy living among Seychelles population.

The campaign has gained great admiration.

In one of her recent televised interviews to give an oversight of her ‘back to basic’ project, Ms Estico drew the admiration of Jean-Paul Geffroy, a well established businessman who manages and owns Geffroy Farm,.

Mr Geffroy has been intensively active in local community projects, such as schools, to change the mindset of the population on healthy living.

Mr Geffroy acknowledged that he was touched by Ms Estico’s unique and outstanding project.

He explained that he shares Ms Estico’s philosophy of teaching the population how to make small changes to improve their healthy lifestyle.

“This project has so much in common with my belief of promoting healthy living. I felt it was my duty to approach you and support this national project which will bring benefits to Seychelles,” Mr Geffroy told Ms Estico.

The ‘back to basic’ project is targeting four Seychellois families.

During fifteen weeks Ms Estico and her sponsors will provide each family on a monthly basis a nutrition list, healthy commodities and supplements to stimulate a healthy lifestyle.

Ms Estico said she is in the process of working with nutritionists to draft the list and identify the four families who will benefit from this project.

Her vision is to at least transform the lifestyle of one of the four families and presents results of her project in London for Miss World 2014.

Ms Estico said she is thankful for the support of Mr Geffroy to provide vegetables on a monthly basis to the families.

“Fresh vegetables are the biggest portion of the nutrition list which provides a healthy approach to eating,” she said.

Ms Estico added her focus goes beyond observing the loss of weight in families selected for the project but ensuring they are healthy as well.

“Being healthy does not solely show from the outside, how the person feels inside is also important,” she said.

Mr Geffroy said his farm grows a variety of organic vegetables that could help this project.

“We’ve made tremendous efforts to adopt organic farming and significantly reduce pesticides on the farm. The crops are grown with biological chemicals which transform the way we do farming,” Mr Geffroy remarked.

Ms Estico said it’s important that families start using locally grown and healthy products accessible on the market.  Seychelles Trading Company (STC) is already committed to the ‘back to basic’ project and she’s appealing to other sponsors to come together and support her project.

Ms Estico’s ‘back to basic’ project is seen as setting the benchmark in giving the families the tips to embrace healthy.
