The police have reported that their officers from the Vice Intervention Component (Vic) have during the month of August arrested a total of 30 persons for the offence of drug possession and another 23 were arrested for presumption of consumption of the said substance.

In all 33 of these arrests were from the central and northern regions of Mahé, while the others are from different other districts on Mahé.

On Praslin the police have made nine arrests for drug possession, while six arrests have been registered on La Digue with the last case reported last Friday (August 29, 2014) when a 23-year-old was arrested for possession of heroin.

The police have also uprooted some cannabis plants at Quincy Village over the weekend. No one has been arrested as suspect.

All the cases are being investigated.

The police are investigating two separate child abuse cases reported over the weekend.

In the first case reported on Saturday August 30, a 31-year-old man of Petit Paris is suspected of having both injected and made her two-year-old daughter smoke drug. He was brought to court yesterday morning and has been remanded until September 12. The case was reported to the police by the social services division.

The second case reported on Sunday August 31 was that of sexual interference with a child. A 14-year-old male suspect has been arrested and is being investigated. The victim of the said incident is a four-year-old girl.

Both suspects were arrested on the very same day the reports were made.
