Airtel announces “something big” as Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay becomes Wi-Fi hot spot |02 September 2014

Guests and other clients of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel can now enjoy 24-hour unlimited internet access on the hotel’s premises.

This follows the launch last week of the ‘Beau Vallon Bay Wi-Fi hotspot’.

The ceremony marking the internet coverage was attended by the Central Bank Governor Caroline Abel, principal secretary in the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Benjamin Choppy, the hotel’s managing director (MD) Gulab Rai and his assistant Churchill Gill, Airtel staff as well as customers’ representatives.

There seems to be nothing special about a new Wi-Fi spot as free internet access is now available in most public places such as hotels, restaurants, bars, airports, bus and train stations, ports, parks, schools, health centres etc. If this form of modern culture has not yet generally touched Seychelles we can be sure that it will not take long. In fact, Airtel is currently installing what it has called Wi-Fi hang outs around the country, with the technical help of a company named Core Technologies which specialises in the installation of telecommunication technical equipment.

The Airtel MD Amadou Dina, took the opportunity of the Beau Vallon Bay gathering to announce that “something big” is in the air and will soon be coming our way.

“A big event is coming soon not only for Seychelles but for Africa as it will be a first on the continent,” he said.

Not really revealing its real nature, Mr Dina has however added that the new development falls within the company’s policy to bring latest and best technology to Seychellois, combined with good service and affordable price.

Some sources suggest that the new and big thing is 4G!

Though we are not yet sure, our antenna will now have to be kept high for it. But we will have to keep our ears opened.
