PR company organises auction for charity |02 September 2014

More than R50,000 were raised in aid of autistic children at the Beau Vallon Savoy Resort & Spa last Saturday evening during a fund raising gala.

The event, a first of its kind, was organised by Organiser Seychelles, a newly formed public relations, conference and events management company.

The proceeds from the auctions of a variety of products including hotel get aways, excursions, dinner, air ticket, jewellery, art woks etc. and sponsored by different companies, will go to Pearl Seychelles Autism Group and will benefit 20 children.

Addressing the group of about 200 benefactors who had turned up for Saturday’s event, the executive director of Organisers Seychelles Neddy Nourrice said that their presence showed their generosity towards the good cause of helping autistic children.

On her part, Lynn Lavigne of Pearl Seychelles Autism Group has revealed that the next step is now to bring in professionals to train locals to work with autistic children, as there is a lack of expertise in the field in Seychelles.

She also announced that her association is planning to build an autism centre to cater for children who cannot attend normal school, and permit them to follow a curriculum adapted to their needs.

“This will help make their lives a little more normal,” she said.

During the evening, Ms Nourrice presented Miss Lavigne with documents whereby the Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in India and Dr Murthi dental and medical clinics in Victoria pledged to provide check-up and treatment for the autistic children for the next two years.

A formal presentation of the money collected during the gala evening will be organised soon.
