HR agency and partners hold meeting with graduates |03 September 2014

The Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) recently met the 2013-2014 graduates to familiarise them with key employment information within the public and private sectors as well as provide other essential information relevant to them.

The Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development, Idith Alexander, addressed the graduates at the beginning of the meeting, where she underlined the importance of having the right attitude to work in order to improve productivity.

There were three presenters for the meeting: Mohamed Afif, secretary of state of Cabinet Affairs, gave an exposé on the three arms of the government.

The Department of Public Administration, represented by Marie Nella Gonthier and Veronique Monthy gave a presentation on the rights and entitlements of the graduates when entering the world of work in the public sector.

The director general for Industrial Relations at the Ministry for Labour and Human Resource Development, Jimmy Finesse, spoke of his department’s role in the ministry and the employment procedures within the private sector. Last but not least, Simon Hoareau, an insurance agent, gave the young graduates a presentation on the various life insurance packages available.

After the presentations the graduates had the opportunity to raise concerns related to them and offer suggestions for improvement.

The most common concerns related to their salary packages, the lack of information on benefits that the public sector offers such as housing and other types of allowances, accommodation and job opportunities.

The morning session proved to be a very open, frank and amicable meeting resulting in key ideas for improvement.

Margaret Pillay, chief executive of the ANHRD, closed the meeting with words of encouragement for the young graduates, affirming the ANHRD’s support to them and urging the professionals to remain connected with the agency.

The event, which had been scheduled to end mid-morning, stretched to well past midday and ended with refreshments where the graduates had the opportunity to mingle and talk to the speakers on personal issues that they were not able to air during the meeting.
