Secondary teachers learn more about behaviour management |03 September 2014

Teachers from all secondary schools are this week following sessions on strategies for behaviour management.

The sessions started as of Monday September 1 for La Digue and Praslin secondary schools while sessions for schools on Mahe started yesterday and will end on Friday September 5, 2014.

Organised by the Ministry of Education as part of preparations for the new term which will begin on September 8, 2014, the sessions are being run by Lindsay Talma, a retired education consultant with over 30 years of experience working in inner city schools in London, United Kingdom.

Before moving to the UK where he is now based, Mr Talma worked with education institutions in Seychelles, teaching at the then Senior School, the Seychelles College as well as at the former National Youth Service (NYS). He also worked at the Ministry of Education headquarters.

During the sessions, discussions and activities with the teachers are focused on strategies for improved behaviour management by reviewing what is currently being implemented in schools. Mr Talma is also sharing his own expertise and strategies used during his extensive years of experience in education while working with schools in the UK.

The sessions are also an opportunity for teachers to share ideas and new classroom strategies that could improve behavior management at their schools and provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The Ministry of Education has said it remains committed to ensuring quality education for all children of Seychelles while also ensuring that schools are continuously exposed to fresh and innovative ways to cope with the ever-changing landscape of teaching and learning.
