SFA rewards 18 long serving staff |03 September 2014

The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) has rewarded 18 of its long serving staff.

This took place during an award ceremony and dinner dance at the Sea Front restaurant last Friday.

The event, which was attended by the Minister for Natural Resources Peter Sinon, was the culmination of activities to mark the SFA’s 30th anniversary.

One of the long serving staff Clifford Toussaint, who has clocked 29 years of service with the SFA, expressed his appreciation in these terms: “It has been a journey full of challenges and learning and I am grateful to all for making my career so exciting. I joined the SFA in 1985 and occupied different posts and had the opportunity to attend several training sessions both locally and abroad. I have been privileged to witness the growth of our organisation. I still remember some intense moments where we had some 25 boats waiting for disembarkment and we still had a very small office. For sure SFA has grown and we have potential to grow more.”

Mr Toussaint was quite emotional when remembering his years in the organisation and he said he will stay with the SFA until he retires.

The chief executive of SFA, Finley Racombo, also congratulated all the long serving staff and recalled all the different stages the SFA has gone through.

“Now we are at a crossroad where we are going towards diversification. We are pleased to see more and more Seychellois investing in the business of processing fields and also to see that the fishermen are getting together. Our future relies on so many factors and we need to work together to make it successful,” he added.

During the ceremony, staff were given certificates for taking part in voluntary work and sports day as well as their involvement in the Carnaval International de Victoria.

Guests were also entertained by songs and some kanmtole dances by the staff and students of the Maritime Training Centre. The evening continued with dinner and dance.
