James Kinyany appointed Barclays Seychelles’ interim managing director |15 September 2014

James Kinyany is the interim managing director of Barclays Seychelles, subject to completion of necessary regulatory approvals, according to press release from the bank.

This follows the appointment of Rakesh Jha as managing director of Barclays Uganda. Mr Jha had until now been leading the Seychelles business.

Mr Kinyany joined Barclays Uganda in August 2012 and previously held the positions of chief operating officer and more recently interim managing director for Barclays Uganda. Prior to that, he held the position of operations director for Barclays Kenya from January 2008 to August 2012.

Mr Kinyany has over 20 years of banking experience, having worked for various banks in Kenya before joining Barclays in December 1990. Over the course of his career, he has worked in treasury, corporate banking, Barclaycard and operations, and has contributed to major transformational projects for the bank.

Commenting on the appointment, Barclays Seychelles board chairman Jean Weeling Lee said: “We are pleased to welcome James to Barclays Seychelles. His breath of financial services expertise will help us in executing our strategy in the Seychelles.”  

Mr Kinyany will report to Mizinga Melu, the newly appointed chief executive, Barclays Africa regional management.
