Temperature reaches record 34.8 degrees Celsius |12 April 2013

April is normally the hottest month in Seychelles and Wednesday April 10 was a record-breaking day as temperature soared to an unprecedented high of 34.8 degrees Celsius.
Wednesday's high was also the hottest temperature in Seychelles since the 34.4 degrees Celsius recorded on November 14, 1974.

Earlier this month, the director of meteorological services Vincent Amelie had told Nation he expected the weather to get hotter after the heat started building up so early in the year with the temperature climbing rather high in March.

Mr Amelie added that the old record of 34.4 degrees Celsius almost got wiped out from the record books last week when the temperature soared to 34.2 degrees Celsius.

Last month (in March), the Seychelles Meteorological Services twice registered 33.7 degrees Celsius – on March 29 and 30 – making it the hottest month of March since Seychelles started keeping records of daily temperatures.

The third hottest day was registered on April 10, 1998 with the temperature rising to 33.8 degrees Celsius.
