Government invests in new medical equipment |17 September 2014

The Seychelles government has invested R2 million in the form of medical equipment to be used by different health centres.

The equipment purchased and which was on display yesterday afternoon at the Seychelles Hospital include ECG machines, defibrillators, diagnostic sets, weighing scales and physiotherapy equipment.

This is in line with the policy of the Ministry of Health to acquire new stocks of modern medical equipment to replace broken and outdated ones.

The lot of equipment will be distributed to different clinical units such as the physiotherapy services, health centres and other care facilities.

Health Care Agency chief executive Dr Suresh Menon said: “Through the use of modern equipment, health care delivery will be greatly improved and the work of health care professionals will no doubt be eased.”

The physiotherapy equipment was handed over to Wahida Payet of the physiotherapy unit by Weli Kukule, chief biomedical engineer of the Health Care Agency.

The other medical equipment was accepted by Dr Barun Kumar Saha of the community health services from William Labrosse, senior biomedical engineer.

The presentation was made in the presence of the Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, senior staff of the ministry, affiliated partners and other health staff members. Those who were present later viewed the equipment and got further about their use.
