STC launches new SeyTé flavoured teas |19 September 2014

Tea drinkers can now choose from six new aromatic flavoured teas and one branded tea which have just hit the local market.

The Seychelles Trading Company (STC) introduced the new teas to the local market yesterday morning at its Victoria supermarket.

The flavoured teas are SeyTé Lemon Tea, SeyTé Mint Tea, SeyTé Strawberry Tea, SeyTé Vanilla Tea, SeyTé Black Tea and SeyTé Cinnamon Tea. There is also the branded SeyTé The Silver Tips.

They are all loose tea with the flavoured ones of 70mg packed in small attractive logo designed carton boxes. The SeyTé Silver Tips of 35gm and 70gm are packed in glass jars.

The aromatic flavoured teas are being sold in packs of six containing one of each flavour for R135. It can also be bought individually at R25. The SeyTé Silver Tips is a unique brand and is being sold for R400 and R750.

All the teas are produced locally at the STC’s tea factory at Morne Blanc.

STC’s chief executive Veronique Laporte launched the new products in the presence of the company’s board members, management and staff.

According to Priyanga Tennege, manager of STC’s tea unit and also responsible for STC’s tea factory, the tea contains a high amount of bio-chemical compounds that have aphrodisiac and pharmacological properties that can prevent many degenerating diseases.

“Out of the seven products only the SeyTé Black Tea and SeyTé The Silver Tips are 100% local tea. Following the outcome of the grading test results, the others are blended with different proportion of Sri Lankan tea which is one among the best in the world. Then the natural flavours are added,” he explained.

The branded SeyTé Silver Tips is made from leaves carefully fine-picked in the tip of the tea bud that later undergoes a unique manufacturing process.
Still according to Mr Tennege the SeyTé Silver Tips is an expensive unique local brand.

“It tastes like liquor when brewed and it can also be chewed if one feels like it. It goes well after dinner,” he added.

The seven SeyTé products went on sale only at the STC supermarket and the STC Duty Free shop at the Seychelles International Airport yesterday.
They will be available at other STC outlets in the near future. There are also plans to have them put in teabags.

“Plans for the newly produced products started three years ago and with the arrival of the new STC management and its full backing, this is the result we are witnessing today. Our last product which hit the market dates back to 10 years,” Mr Tennege said.

The guests and shoppers were later invited to taste the different aromatic flavoured teas.

The STC has said the public can direct their feedbacks on the products to its customer care service.

With the seven new tea products the STC tea factory is now producing 28 varieties of tea which are very popular with locals and tourists.
Mr Tennege said the tea plantation in Seychelles started in 1945 and that mass tea production started in 1966.
