Exhibition showcases safety gears |29 September 2014

An exhibition of safety gears was held on Friday to educate members of the public on the different factors that lead to accidents in the work place.

It was also a way of making employees and employers aware of the various protective gears that can help reduce the impacts of workplace accidents.

The exhibition, which took place in the lobby of Independence House, was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development.
It coincided with the Safety Week which was officially launched by Minister Idith Alexander on Monday.

Taking part in the exhibition alongside the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development were key partners from different government departments as well as from the private sector. They included the Seychelles Ports Authority, Seychelles Police Force, occupational health department, among others.

Among the many people who stopped to view the exhibition were Minister Alexander herself accompanied by a delegation from her ministry.

Speaking to Seychelles Nation Frank Aglae, a member of the Safety Week organising committee, said: “The week was well organised and we are planning that in the future we move the exhibition to Praslin and La Digue. We hope that we continue to have the continuous support from the private sector and our stakeholders so that we can continue to raise awareness of safety at the work place. That way, we can have a more conducive work environment where productivity increases and sickness and absenteeism diminish.”
