Ministry probes death of Kenyan national at Seychelles Hospital |30 September 2014

The Ministry of Health is investigating a case of a Kenyan national who passed away two days after admission at the Seychelles Hospital.
At the time of death, a definitive diagnosis had not been established for the said patient.

The person in question worked in Seychelles and went on leave in August 2014 and returned to Seychelles on September 13. During his time away he never left Kenya. Of note is that Kenya has not registered any case of Ebola to date.  Further investigation revealed no contact with any ill patients.
As such, the patient did not meet the criteria of a suspected case of Ebola.

Given the severity and short duration of the illness, a decision was taken to take all the necessary precautions as for any acute severe illness.

Investigation is under way and a blood sample has been dispatched to a regional reference laboratory for an advanced screening for viruses.
Results are expected within a day or two.
