Ten adult students of the Confucius Classroom of the University of Seychelles (UniSey) – Confucius Institute have received their certificates of achievement after following a three-month course in the Chinese language.

The certificate and prize-giving ceremony, conducted by the students themselves in both English and Chinese languages, took place at the UniSey Lounge last Friday.

It  was attended by the President of the Seychelles-China Association Charlie Ng, the director of the Unisey-Confucius Institute Professor Ma Min, UniSey officials and partners.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of all students read out in both English and Chinese languages, Andy Jean-Louis thanked Confucius Institute and Dalian University of China, the headquarters of Confucius Institute, for organising such a course.

“It was not easy but thanks to the great teachers we had, we managed to finish the three-month course with success,” said Mr Jean-Louis.

He said besides learning the language, the students also learned a lot about the rich culture of China.

Mr Jean-Louis said he hopes for more advanced courses in the Chinese language as to him it will be a means of contributing towards cooperation between Seychelles and China.

The students also performed a song in Chinese for the occasion.

The ceremony included voting for the best digital photos which had entered a competition held under the theme ‘Seychelles Natural Beauty and Culture’.

The Confucius classroom was launched in June at the UniSey with the aim of promoting Chinese language learning in Seychelles. It teaches the Chinese language to university students, government officials, expatriate employees,      businessmen, school children. In fact anybody. Its headquarters is Dalian University in China and it constitutes three Chinese lecturers from Dalian University of China and two lecturers from the UniSey. The teachers from China are responsible for the language teaching while the teachers from UniSey are for management.
