Chinese community celebrates

The Chinese community in Seychelles marked the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) with a flag-raising ceremony yesterday at the Chinese embassy at St Louis.

Addressing the gathering, outgoing Chinese Ambassador Shi Zhongjun said: “As the flag gradually climbs towards the top, we see a long-standing and tenacious nation, and we see a country that never ceases its march, from poverty to prosperity, from humiliation to glory, from backwardness to revitalisation.”

“Behind every Chinese, home and abroad, there is a China. Only if China is strong enough, could we have higher status, more dignity and more confidence,” added Ambassador Shi who noted that since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, especially the reform and opening up, China has witnessed ground-shaking transformation, from poverty and backwardness to the spotlight of the world.

The ambassador, who later joined his guests in taking some refreshments and snacks, explained that today, China is the second largest economy, its export/import volume and foreign exchange reserve rank top, and its technology is rocketing.

“China’s achievement is the achievement of every Chinese. China’s glory is our glory.

No matter where we are, this five-starred red flag shall always summon us together like today, to celebrate the close connection between our family and nation, to wish a brighter future for China and for us all,” he said.
