Hamburg audience celebrates Mancham’s new book |04 October 2014

Seychelles’ founding President James R. Mancham was hosted on Tuesday evening by Dr Götze Land & Karte, the largest geographical bookstore in Germany, at a reception for the launch of his new book ‘SEYCHELLES – The saga of a small nation nagivating the cross-currents of a big world’.

Several members of the Hamburg social circle attended the event, including Hans-Joachim Worms, who has been Seychelles honorary consul in Hamburg for over 30 years, and his wife. Most of the guests bought a signed copy of the book.

Following the reception, which started with the projection of a Seychelles tourist film (courtesy Seychelles Ministry of Tourism), Dr Farhad Vladi of Vladi Private Islands GmbH, the leading island consultant and broker in the world, described the Seychelles islands as constituting “the most beautiful collection of islands in the world today”.

Dr Vladi has entertained a friendly relationship with the founding President Mancham for more than 40 years when Mr Mancham, as a young lawyer, was involved in the sale of Cousine Island.

“Sir James is a great storyteller and this book has something of interest for everyone interested in the Seychelles of yesterday, today and tomorrow,” Dr Vladi said.

In a well-received address, Mr Mancham gave a brief description of the different parts of his book and demonstrated the reasons why Seychelles is today’s talking point among those who love islands and who are attached to island life.

Mr Mancham reiterated his argument that no country is “small” if it is surrounded by the sea. And the fact that even if he comes from a small country, this does not necessarily mean that he is “a small man”.
