Indian music and cuisine highlight Seychelles-India Day celebrations |07 October 2014

Several activities were organised for the second Seychelles-India Day, and to make the celebrations extra special several Indian celebrities were invited to partake of the Seychelles and Indian cultures.

Not everybody had the chance to take part in all the activities, but those who bought a ticket for the gala lunch on Sunday at the Constance Ephelia Resort at Port Launay had a taste of most of the activities organised by the Seychelles-India Day committee.

Before lunch was served Stephen Devassy and his group gave a vibrant performance for the invitees who included Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, Indian high commissioner Sanjay Panda and his wife, chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken, chairman of the Seychelles-India Day committee Vijay Patel, among others.

Stephen Devassy also performed during last Friday’s event and gave a free entrance show at the Stad Popiler carpark on Saturday. During the show, which was attended by Vice-President Danny Faure and other distinguished guests, the organising committee presented a token to all sponsors of this year’s Seychelles-India Day event.

After the guests had the chance to appreciate Stephen Devassy for the last time for this Seychelles-India Day, the guests could caress their taste buds with the different delicacies from the Indian cuisine hosted by the famous Indian Chef Kunal Kapur.

Members of the public had the chance to view Chef Kunal Kapur show off his talent holding a carving knife and stirring and toasting a pan during a live culinary show held at the Eden Plaza on Saturday morning. Many people turned up to see the Chef at work and most of them were eager to help when the chef asked for volunteers.

Among the different dishes served at the gala lunch were briyani, Indian seafood curry, chapatti, different Indian pickles, and many more.
The accompanying photos show highlights of the musical and culinary extravaganzas.
