Anse Marie Louise to get recreational and cultural park |14 October 2014

The consultative meeting in full swing

People residing in the Takamaka district were invited to give their views and suggestions on a proposed recreational and cultural park at Anse Marie Louise.

This took place during a consultative meeting at the district’s community centre last Saturday. The meeting was organised by the Seychelles Investment Board led by its chief executive Rupert Simeon.

Also present were the principal secretary in the Ministry of Land Use and Housing (MLUH) Joseph Francois; the district’s Member of the National Assembly Alderic Bristol and the developer of the project represented by architect Ferdinand Berlouis.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Allied Builders has teamed up with the government, through the Takamaka district, to build the infrastructure. The company will however have no say in the running and management of the park and its facilities.

The recreational and cultural park will be located on a beach front property owned by the government and will be maintained by the Takamaka district administration.
But the facilities which will be put up there will be run by the private sectior through a tender process.

They will include a promenade, craft kiosks, a security post, parking, road for pedestrians, multi-purpose court for beach volleyball and football as well as other beach sport facilities. A store for fishermen, public toilet and public parking will also be built.

“This project is in response to demand by the public for recreational land by the beaches of Seychelles for the population to enjoy,” said PS Francois, making reference to other similar projects already initiated at Beau Vallon and Anse Royale and upcoming ones like at the Marie-Jeanne Estate on Praslin.

“All the buildings will be timber-based reflecting the traditional architecture of Seychelles. Endemic plants like veloutier, bois blanc, bois de rose and bois cassant will be planted along the seashore,” explained the developer.

Priority will be given to the people of Takamaka to run the facilities but those like the restaurant for example will be tendered out.
The recreational park is to be used by everyone locals and tourists alike.
