UniSey launches alumni association |22 October 2014

The University of Seychelles (UniSey) has launched its Alumni Association, a platform where topics of academic interests can be discussed among members.

In a ceremony at The Guy Morel Institute, Ma Joie, last Friday, the vice-chancellor of the UniSey, Professor Dennis Hardy, told all present that crossing the stage of graduation should not mark the end of one’s association with the university and creating an association will ensure that this is not the case.

The association will not only help maintain the relationship between graduates and the university but also create a network between graduates so they can keep in touch with one another.

“This professional network will be an influential proof in the life of the nation. Thanks to your successes we’re each year building a stronger reputation.

We want you to be proud of your successes just as we are proud of you. You are now role models for our present students to look up to. And I hope that with the help of the alumni association there will be opportunities for you to inspire them with your own stories,” said Professor Hardy, adding that everybody has a story to tell, for example why you decided to take on or embark on a particular course.

The professor said the central mission of the university is to help through high education in turning Seychelles into a knowledge economy.

He also told the graduates that in their careers they would be playing their own part in that transition.

Noting that knowledge needs to be constantly updated, Professor Hardy said that Seychelles being a global player in the world economy there is always more to learn.

As changes are happening all the time, Professor Hardy said it is fitting that the event is being held at The Guy Morel Institute where continuing professional development is very vibrant.

He urged all to take these opportunities which are constantly on offer to further their professional career.

He expressed his wish that the Alumni Association is seen as an opportunity for members to enjoy themselves and through it keep in touch at a professional level.

Edith Wong, a Bachelor of Laws graduate and Avilla Meriza, a Bachelor in Early Childhood Education graduate, delivered their testimonies on the long and hard road of their studies and on how they have emerged victorious and happy through it.

The Registrar of the UniSey, Michel Desnousse, presented the alumni charter to a past student, Judith Louis.

The UniSey Alumni Association is also asking all UniSey students to design a logo for the alumni where interesting prizes will be won. The closing date for submission is November 15, 2014. More information regarding the logo can be obtained from the UniSey marketing department or telephone 4381245.
