Seychelles and Mauritius have signed new twinning agreements between Victoria and two municipalities and six district councils in Mauritius.
Two existing accords have also been renewed.

The Mayor of Victoria, Jacqueline Moustache-Belle, signed the new agreements on behalf of the six districts of Seychelles on Tuesday this week.

Present at the signing ceremony in Flacq, Mauritius were members of the Association of the District Councils of Mauritius and the Seychelles delegation, who included Sultanne Jacqueline (Port Glaud MNA), Bernard Arnephie (Anse Boileau MNA) and district administrators from Anse Royale, Port Glaud, Beau Vallon, Grand AnsePraslin, Anse Boileau, Mont Buxton, Pointe Larue and Plaisance.

New twinning agreements were signed between the Municipal Town Council of Beau Bassin/Rose Hill and the district of Mont Buxton and between the Municipal Town Council of Vacoas/Phoenix and the district of Plaisance. There were also new twinning agreements between the districts of Moka and Pointe Larue, Savanne and Port Glaud, Pamplemousse and Grand Anse Praslin, Rivière du Rempart and Beau Vallon, while Anse Royale district has renewed its agreement with the district of Flacq and Anse Boileau with Rivière Noire.

It should be noted before 2012 Moka/Flacq, Pamplemousse/Rivière du Rempart and Grand Port/Savanne were paired off.
Mayor Moustache-Belle said that the Association of the Districts of Victoria has worked closely with the Association of the District Council of Mauritius to update previous agreements.

Two new clauses have been added in all the twinning agreements.  One is for the provision of travel insurance for delegates travelling between Mauritius and Seychelles on twinning exchanges.

The other important clause is to ensure safety of children accompanying groups on exchanges contained within the twinning agreements.

The twinning agreements seek to promote an exchange of experience in terms of strategy, policy and development in areas such as arts, marine, technology, education, history, culture, sports, agriculture, craft and business.

It also encourages the involvement of individual citizens and community groups to develop a spirit of cooperation and create strong bonds of friendship.
The Mayor of Victoria said that twinning agreements with more districts and municipalities of Mauritius will be signed after elections in Mauritius.
