A 18-year-old man from Mare Anglaise, Aron Tirant, has been fined R16,000 in total for causing an accident at Bel Ombre last Sunday.
Tirant, who hit and injured a 60-year-old German lady visitor as she was crossing the road from behind a bus from which she had disembarked, was fined by the Magistrate Court yesterday.

The accident happened close to the bus stop at the Fisherman’s Cove Hotel.
Tirant pleaded guilty and the Court found him guilty on two counts:

For the first count - dangerous driving - he has been fined R8000, which he has until December 2014 to off-set otherwise he will  be imprisoned for three months.

For the second count - driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit - he has been fined another R8000, which he has until February 2015 to pay otherwise he will be imprisoned for three months.

Furthermore, Tirant has had his driving license suspended for six months.

A 36-year-old man of St Louis, who was already on remand in a suspected case of drug trafficking, has re-appeared before the Supreme Court, where he has been formerly charged and again remanded until October 30, 2014, when he will re-appear before the Court.

A 61-year-old man residing at Baie Lazare appeared before the Magistrate Court this week, where he has been remanded until November 4, 2014, when he will re-appear before Court.
He is a suspect in a sexual assault case on an 11-year-old boy, which has been ongoing for the past two years and was only reported to the police on October 21, 2014.
