Police Communique |22 November 2014

The Police have reported that a 48-year-old male court interpreter of Port Glaud appeared before the court yesterday afternoon and has been remanded as suspect in a drug trafficking case.

The suspect was arrested at around 17.20hrs at the La Promenade in the English River district. At the time of his arrest, the police discovered and seized certain amount of herbal material which has already been confirmed to be cannabis drugs.

The drugs were in an envelope in a bag which he had thrown away while running away after he had observed the police approaching him.
The case is under investigation and the suspect will reappear before the court on December 2.

The 48-year-old male drunken driver of Cascade who hit two tourists at Beau Vallon last Saturday has been convicted before the court for the offences of dangerous driving and also for driving a motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.

For count one he has been fined R9,000 to be paid by the end of May 2015  and in default of which he will serve three months imprisonment. For count two, he has been sentenced to two months imprisonment and fined R9,000, which he has to pay in total by the end of May 2015.

Furthermore, he has had his driving license suspended for a period of two years.
