SPDF reaches out to the community |25 November 2014

Members of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) yesterday carried out some community work as part of activities to commemorate Defence Forces Day which falls today.

They chose the homes for the elderly at Anse Boileau, Au Cap and Union Vale, the Foyer de Nazareth orphanage at Anse Etoile and the church at Grand Anse.
Seychelles Nation caught up with some members of the Seychelles Coastguard involved in some community service at the Home for the Elderly at Union Vale. The soldiers started early morning and finished their service some time before noon.

Noting that this is an annual event, Sergeant Major Rath said: “Every year we make sure a team from our unit, which consists of 210 soldiers, do some community work. This year we concentrated on cleaning the outdoor of the home by trimming and cutting invasive grass.”

The Barbarons Unit did some clean-up at the Anse Boileau Home for Elderly while the Special Forces, Exile Unit cleaned the church at Grand Anse. A team from the Seychelles Defence Academy were at the Au Cap Home for the Elderly while the SPDF headquarters at Bel Eau cleaned the Foyer de Nazareth. “Our theme this year is ‘Annou kree en monn kot i annan lape, lazistis ek lanmour’. In this context we wanted to go towards the society to bring our help and also to make people understand our role. Next year we will see if we can extend the community service to Praslin and La Digue also, depending on what the committee will decide,” said Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Larue, chairperson of the organising committee at the SPDF.
