HIV/Aids remains a threat |27 November 2014

“Seychelles remains at risk of an increase in the number of people affected by HIV/Aids as there are more people at risk who include drug users, sex workers and men having sex with men.”

The chief executive of the National Aids Council, Dr Anne Gabriel, said this in her opening remarks at a multi sectoral national dialogue workshop and HIV and harm reduction hosted by the HIV/Aids Support Organisation (Haso) in collaboration with Kenya Aids NGO’s Consortium (Kanco).

The workshop, held last week at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, focused on what the local problems and needs are, what are the best way forward to address these problems and what does Seychelles want to include in the concept note.

Haso chairperson Justin Freminot presented the situation of HIV/Aids in Seychelles and gave the 10 components of the harm reduction that Seychelles may or can adapt in the concept note.

Kanco and its Eastern Africa partners has developed and submitted a regional expression of interest (EoI) for a project on HIV and harm reduction to the Global Fund and has been recommended to proceed to concept note development.

Seychelles is one of the proposed beneficiary countries under this project.
