25th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) |29 November 2014

Musical show brings end to activities

The musical show organised under the theme ‘Let Us Celebrate CRC @ 25 years’ and which was held at Espace Building, Ile du Port, last weekend has been hailed a success.

Many children and their parents turned up for the show organised to close the week-long activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) which was celebrated on November 20.

Artists aged 10 to 39 years voluntarily took part in the show which was coordinated by popular local artist ‘Elijah” (Stephen Eliza). Elijah and his brother ‘Mercenary’ together with the Ile Perseverance choir performed the theme song ‘Annou Senm Lanmour’ on the launch day of the activities.

No special theme was required for the musical show but artists performed popular songs that were really appreciated by the audience.

The show was a paid activity and it was a means to raise funds for the council, said the organisers, the National Council for Children (NCC). Small gifts or other tokens were given to the artists just to say thank you.

The activities which started on November 17 were organised by the NCC to celebrate childhood and young people while valuing their unique culture and situation.

Other activities organised were workshops for children’s duty bearers, carers and parents; screening of documentaries on the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) TV highlighting achievements and challenges in the implementation of the CRC; community displays promoting services to children; march against child sexual abuse; photography exhibition; special school assemblies on the CRC and a debate on the CRC.
