Seychelles welcomes 4G network |29 November 2014

Seychelles is the first country among the 17 countries in Africa which receive Airtel services to offer the 4G network.

During a special gathering at the Eden Bleu Hotel this week, the new service was officially launched by Vice-President Danny Faure and Airtel Seychelles managing director Amadou Dina in the presence of Airtel Africa chief executive Christian de Faria, high government officials and other distinguished guests.

4G or Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a radio access technology that delivers high speeds.

4G is a standard in mobile network technology and stands for fourth generation – the latest after 2G and 3G – and it gives a faster and rich internet experience.

With 4G hi-speed one will notice a visible difference while downloading files, doing video-chat, playing multiplayer games or while viewing HD videos online.

Addressing the guests Vice-President Faure said “today is an occasion for celebrating yet another milestone achievement in the history of information and communication technology in Seychelles. The launch of 4G is only the latest step to show Airtel’s commitment to delivering one of the best networks in the world to consumers and businesses.”

“Internet usage among the young people is high; let us ensure that we not only have the infrastructure which can deliver high speed internet access but as a country we need to strive to meet our people’s demand,” Vice-President Faure added.

Pointing out that Seychelles is the first African country among the 17 African Airtel countries, Mr Dina said “the network will cover the whole area from the international airport up to Beau Vallon. I am pleased to announce that the CEO of Airtel Africa has approved an immediate budget to establish the network on the three main islands – Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.”

During the ceremony Vice-President Faure, Mr de Faria and Mr Dina cut the ribbon to officially open the Premier Lounge in the Eden Plaza at the Eden Island.

Different religious representatives were present to bless the lounge on its opening.
