SIT students learn about engineering career prospects at petroleum firm |17 December 2014

Students from the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) have had the chance to learn more about the various engineering career prospects that exist at the Secychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec).

This was through the presence of the petroleum firm at a ‘recruitment fair’ organised recently by the SIT.

With much emphasis being placed on further developing the maritime industry and tapping into the ‘Blue Economy’ concept, Seypec seized the opportunity to promote the numerous career options available to SIT students upon completion of their studies, particularly in the crewing department with a focus on engineering.

Seypec’s presence at the fair was also aimed and bringing key information directly to the students and present the ideal opportunity for those interested to seek clarification, learn the various recruitment procedures and have access to more information on the engineering career prospects in the industry.

To ensure students obtain maximum information, Seypec human resources department officials were on hand for one on one discussions as well as disburse various relevant required documentations such as application forms, brochures and further training course guides.

Neil Mathiot, a third engineer with past experience on Seychelles’ international tankers, was also present to share his first hand experience with the keen SIT students.

Seypec is currently undertaking phase two of its capacity building training programme in partnership with the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (Cinec) with a batch of students undergoing their nine-month placement on both local and international Seychelles tanker fleet.

Taking part in such recruitment drives and careers fairs is part of Seypec’s strategy of ensuring the core objective of continuous investments in professional development of students and towards obtaining a fully fledged qualified crew pool of Seychellois to operate on all its tankers.
