Takamaka Bay distillery brings Christmas smiles to disabled |26 December 2014

Eight disabled children from the Mont Buxton district have received special gifts on Christmas.

This was during a short ceremony held at the office of the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton.

Takamaka Bay Distillery’s managing director Richard d’Offay and another representative of the company Pritty Durup handed over the donation in the form of hampers to Minister Meriton.

This was in the presence of the member of the National Assembly for Mont Buxton district Sheryl Vangadasamy.

Minister Meriton thanked Mr d’Offay for the good initiative and for thinking of those special children at this time of joy and sharing.

“This is a good cause. It is important to help the disabled children develop their abilities so that they may live a productive and happy life rather than casting them aside,” Minister Meriton pointed out.

Ms Vangadasamy also thanked Mr d’Offay for being part of such a good cause which initially started with a group of elderly and has now moved on to the group of disabled youths, and added that she knew the children personally and knew that they would appreciate the gifts.

Mr d’Offay stated that it is always a pleasure to be involved in communities other than his and that his company is looking forward to continue helping in any way it can.

Also present at the ceremony was Marie-Helene Niole, a health professional representing the Mont Buxton district and who also came up with the idea of helping the disabled youths.
