Former President Rene’s biography to be launched at the Brunei Gallery in London |24 January 2015

The biography of former President France Albert Rene will be launched at the Brunei Gallery, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), in London, United Kingdom on Monday next week, it has been announced.

The book entitled Albert Rene. The Father of Modern Seychelles: A Biography written by historian Dr Kevin Shillington, was officially launched in Seychelles on June 3 last year by President James Michel.

The biography reveals the story of a man who has changed the history of Seychelles — by removing Seychelles’ subjectivity to post-slavery and by building a present cohesive multi-cultural society — and also depicts the childhood life and political career of Mr Rene.

The launch ceremony in London will be hosted by the Seychelles high commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Marie-Pierre Lloyd, in collaboration with the Centre of African Studies (CAS) and the SOAS.

The launch of the biography at the Brunei Gallery— one of the galleries in Central London dedicated to presenting and promoting cultures of the Middle East, Asia and Africa — will be an opportune moment to reveal a crucial era of the history of Seychelles and its political landscape to the British public.
