Mancham joins editorial board of prestigious world peace journal |26 January 2015

It is announced from Glacis sur Mer that Seychelles’ founding President James R. Mancham has been invited to join the editorial board of the International Journal on World Peace.

The invitation was personally conveyed to Mr Mancham at the weekend by Gordon L. Anderson, editor- in-chief of the magazine, who is currently on a visit to Seychelles in the company of his wife Mary-Jane, who was until recently the chairperson of the Minnesota Chapter of the Women Federation for World Peace in the USA.

Mr Anderson, who holds a PhD in the Philosophy of Religion, had been for over 30 years active in peace studies. He was until recently President of the Minnesotea Legislative Evaluation Assembly and is today the President of Paragon House, one of the nationally established and respected publishing houses in America. As a matter of fact, Paragon House has published three books by Mr Mancham. In December 2001 it published War on America - Seen from the Indian Ocean, followed in August 2009 by Mr Mancham’s autobiography Seychelles Global Citizen and now in a few weeks’ time, it will be launching the international edition of Seychelles – The saga of a small nation navigating the cross-currents of a big world. The Seychelles edition of the book was launched in September last year.

Recommended as a core journal of the social sciences, the Internation Journal on World Peace has been discussing new perspectives on the pressing issue of world peace dealing wich such topics as peace, research, sovereignty, diplomacy, religion, human rights, genocide, forced labour, conflict resolution, terrorism, nationalism, legitimacy and virtue.

“No issue is on the human mind more than the search for world peace. Numerous factors like globalisation, national interest, ethnic identity, hunger, the environment, ideology, human nature and the economy, all have an impact on world peace. The International Journal on World Peace is concerned with all these issues,” Mr Anderson said.

The publisher is alo the author of many authoritative books concerning the political philosophy of the United States. His recent best seller Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness – Version 4.0, has been described by Morton A. Kaplan, distinguished professor of political science emeritus of the University of Chicago, as a penetrating analysis of the American constitutional system of the “worms that have inflicted it and of the need of a restored constitutional structure that will enable it to fulfill the noble mission the founding fathers intended for it”.

Meanwhile Mr Mancham, who is a leading advisor and endless promoter of Seychelles in numerous world organisations in official and non-official capacities, said that he was overwhelmingly proud to accept the invitation to serve on the board of the International Journal on World Peace and said that he was looking forward to a challenging and exciting 2015.

Following his participation in the Arctic Summit Conference which The Economist is hosting in mid-March 2015 in Oslo, Norway, in April 2015 he will be joining Sven Lindblad, the world acclaimed pioneer of eco-tourism, on his new cruise ship, the National Geographic Orion on an Indian Ocean islands odyssey when the ship will be visiting several islands of the Seychelles group. This special cruise is being organised by Lindblad Expeditions in partnership with the National Geographic.

Mr Mancham said he is tremendously happy about the comments he has received concerning his book.
Peter Larose, the Seychelles-born executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Africa, has described it as “a masterpiece”.

Peter Tomka, President of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, has written: “This impressive work will allow its readers to gain a better understanding of the fascinating history of Seychelles and how it has become the country it is today.”

The former President said he was delighted to have received an e-mail from Rashed Trimesh, the director and founder of Revue Astrolabe, the magazine of the world’s great travellers that have been distributed for over 30 years in 194 nations, that he will be publishing a two-page review of Mr Mancham’s latest book in its next issue.
