A-Level exam results - 7 students get straight ‘A’s |28 January 2015

Seven students have been awarded straight ‘A’s while two (2) students obtained A* grades in three A-Level subjects in the University of Cambridge International examinations they sat for in October/November 2014.

Welcoming the 2014 results, the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals) says it is pleased with the performance of the candidates.
A total of 165 candidates sat the examinations, six more than in 2013.

The number of entries for the 17 different A-Level subjects increased from 450 in 2013 to 466 in 2014.
Forty-two (42) students obtained the required level of points (18) for progression to further studies.

A 100% pass rate was recorded for the subjects Chemistry, Literature in English, Travel and Tourism, and French.

The pass rate for the subjects Mathematics, Sociology, Computing, History, and Geography was between 91% and 97%.

For the subjects Biology, Physics, Business Studies, Economics, and Psychology the pass rate was between 82% to 89%. The pass rate in Law was 76% and, in Accounting 57%.

A communique from the Ministry of Education says that while welcoming these positive A-Level examination results, it is the objective of the ministry and of Sals to take appropriate measures to achieve a significant increase in the percentage of students achieving at the highest possible standards in the A-Level examinations in the years ahead.

“This key objective is reflected in the targets set out in the Ministry of Education’s ‘Medium-Term Strategy 2013-17 and beyond’. The implementation of the ministry’s strategy and the realisation of these targets will require a committed and sustained contribution from both the Ministry of Education and the management and staff at the Sals. It will also require a serious commitment from the A-Level students, and their parents and teachers, so that the overall quality of the grades achieved across all subjects will be further enhanced,” says the communique.

The Ministry of Education and the management and staff of Sals have congratulated the 2014 cohort of students for their hard work, and wish them well in their further studies and future careers.

The Ministry of Education also wishes to thank the management and teachers at Sals for their commitment to this important educational endeavour at the upper-secondary level in the Seychelles education system, and to acknowledge in a special way the encouragement and support provided by the students’ parents and other stakeholders.
