The total street value of drugs seized for the year to date amounts to almost R1 million, the National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) has said.

In the latest seizure, the largest to date, a 20-year-old air conditioning technician has been arrested by the NDEA in connection with some 440 grammes of compressed cannabis.

The seizure resulted from an intelligence led operation in Chetty Flats, Anse aux Pins, an area that is frequented by drug dealers.

The latest discovery is the ninth trafficking type seizure since the beginning of the year, bringing the total street value of drugs seized for the year to date to almost R1 million.

Five of the seizures related to cannabis products, two consisted of heroin and two plantations of cannabis plants have been discovered.

One of the cannabis seizures that was made in the Pointe au Sel area on January 25 consisted of a cannabis growing and distribution operation that is believed to have been in existence for some time. A 45-year-old farmer was arrested in connection with the operation.
