Seychelles’ oldest citizen turns 106 |28 January 2015

Nancy Marie, the most elderly citizen of Seychelles, celebrated her 106th birthday on Monday January 26.
A ceremony to mark this auspicious occasion took place at her residence at Majoie, where she was joined by Kevin Vidot, the member of the National Assembly for English River, and her close relatives.

“Today we have the great pleasure of celebrating Mrs Nancy Marie’s  106th birthday, a very wonderful age as we don’t know whether any of us will ever reach that age,” stated Mr Vidot.

Mrs Marie also received congratulations from President James Michel and the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton.
Mr Vidot said he wishes that Mrs Marie gets the chance to celebrate more birthdays and that may God give her the strength and courage to stay healthy and happy always.

Her grandchild, Marguerite Marie, said she is always happy to help her grandmother and it is a pleasure to be around her.

When asked how her grandmother has been able to stay healthy and live this long, she noted that Mrs Marie lived a peaceful and happy life, she was never too anxious about anything and was always positive.

Mrs Marie’s son, Guy Marie, said he is not worried about his mother as he sees that she is a strong woman and he does not see any reason why she will not get to celebrate more birthdays as she is healthy.

He added that she has reached this age today because of her state of mind as she is a peaceful woman and she lives a happy life with her children and grandchildren by her side who love her unconditionally.

“I am very happy that I have got the chance to celebrate this birthday with my family today,” said Mrs Marie before singing a ‘romance’ to everyone present at the event.

After cutting one of the many cakes she had received, among hampers, letters and champagne bottles, everyone got the chance to interact with her.
