Seypec sponsors four young engineers for further studies |06 February 2015

Four young Seychellois engineers working for the Seychelles Petroleum Company Limited (Seypec) have been awarded sponsorships from the company to further their studies at the National College of Ireland (NMCI).

Seypec says it is on the basis of their excellent performance and achievements that Martin Roucou, Francis Raoul, Neil Mathiot and Nicholas Sinon have been selected to undertake further studies for their Second Engineer License (Class II).

Three of the four officers present in Seychelles – Messrs Roucou, Mathiot and Raoul – departed from the Seychelles International Airport while Mr Sinon joined the team in Ireland directly from Europe where he was being posted.

The young officers are currently Third Engineers working on the Seypec tanker fleet with a first degree, Bachelor of Marine and Plant Engineering from NMCI. One among the group now proceeding for further studies, Mr Roucou, was awarded Best Marine Engineering Graduate in 2012.

Following their required 12 months sea-time the officers are now eligible to proceed for their Second Engineer license for six months which is being made possible through the financial support of Seypec.

Prior to embarking on their new journey, the young officers attended a departure briefing at the Seypec head office, New Port where they were officially presented their offer letters and travel documents.

The pre-departure meeting was attended by Seypec’s chief executive Conrad Benoiton; Gerard Horan, engineering lecturer from NMCI, and managers from the Seypec shipping department as well as human resource officials.

As ambassadors for Seychelles, the young officers were urged to make full use of the opportunity being granted to them to further their studies at a highly recognised maritime college that provides maritime training and education services of the highest quality.

Great emphasis was also placed on ensuring that their conduct remains at all times of the highest standard, staying focused on their studies and making maximum use of the specialised facilities available at the NMCI.

Seypec has a long standing relationship with NMCI and as part of the company’s continuous capacity building plan and partnership it has been sending students to that maritime college since 2007 for both engineering and navigation training.
