Benefactor donates to children’s foundation |06 March 2015

The Seychelles Children Foundation (SCF) has received a generous donation of school bags, shoes and rain coats from Brent Bonnes of J. Galt International.
Mr Bonnes is also providing a sum of 10,000 rands (SCR12,000) to the SCF to get books online, as a yearly contribution.

“Seychelles already has excellent support structures for the protection of the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society - the children. I am heartened to see how much care, effort and financial resources are directed towards this need from both the government and individual members of the community,” Mr Bonnes remarked during the hand-over ceremony at the SCF headquarters at Bel Eau on Wednesday.

“I wanted to make a donation of practical items for the children at the President’s Village. Of far more value is the donation of books I am making for the homes library. Rather than giving a selection of books of my choosing I will be working with the directors of the SCF to facilitate a mechanism whereby the children at the home will be able to make their own selection and I will fulfill their orders. Seychelles is a very small part of my business but a big part of my heart,” commented Mr Bonnes.

SCF director Jules Hoareau welcomed this donation which he said will help the foundation’s Education Unit.

“We currently have two full-time teachers to help our children at the President’s Village. We are now connected with internet on the village and the teachers help the children individually. The donation of books will complement the children’s education,” Mr Hoareau said.

“It is unfortunate that some of our children on the village did not get proper care and they lack the basics in education. We are trying our best to bring the children up to the standard and supply them with the necessary tools,” added Mr Hoareau.

President’s Village manager Toussaint Melanie said he is happy that people are still concerned about children and they welcomed more support from the community.
Currently, the President’s Village houses 60 children and 35 staff members.
