Letter to the Editor - ‘Nostalgy may not be what it used to be’ |12 March 2015

I would like to add my voice to those thousands in Seychelles who have today extended a hearty welcome to the Hon. Shri Narendra Modi, not only because he is Prime Minister of India but also because he represents “the largest  democratic country” in the world.

Nostalgy may not be what it used to be but please allow me to share 3 photographs from my collection – (i) depicting Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and myself standing to attention as the National Anthem of both Nations were being played (ii) depicting me escorting Prime Minister Gandhi to the VIP Lounge and (iii) showing me in a one-to-one discussion with the late Prime Minister at her office in New Delhi. Certainly these pictures taken in 1976 speak louder than words.

Sir James R. Mancham, KBE
Founding President of the Republic of Seychelles
