Priest found dead on Praslin |01 April 2015

The police have reported that 51-year-old Father Charles Walimbwa, a Ugandan national, was found dead at the St Joseph Grand Anse Praslin Catholic Priest House yesterday morning.

According to information, it was at 7am that a female church assistant noticed that Father Charles had not yet arrived at the Church for morning service.

So she went to the Priest house to look for him but to no avail.

It was there that she reported the matter to the police.

The scene was attended by the police and Father Charles was found lying motionless face down in the corridor of the building’s first floor.

It was also observed that there was a hole in the wooden floor of the building’s attic which houses a water tank just above from where Father Charles’ body was found.

Medical assistance was sought and the priest was certified dead by the doctor at 8.45am.

Police investigation so far shows that Father Charles’ death could well be accidental.

Post mortem result is however being awaited to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, Catholic Bishop Denis Wiehe has expressed sadness over the passing of Father Charles whom he has described as a “generous missionary” who was “steadfast in his faith”.

The Bishop said details of Father Charles’ funeral service will be announced later.
