Seychellois doctor qualified in dermatology |02 April 2015

Dr Poongkuzhali Pillay, elder daughter of G. Siva Pillay and Chitra Pillay, has been awarded her higher degree in dermatology and dermatosurgery.

The course was jointly conducted by the Royal Thai government and the government of Japan at the Institute of Dermatology in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Institute of Dermatology, Ministry of Public Health started its journey in 1972 and provides public service to research and analysis in development.

Thirty-two doctors from 12 different countries were selected, out of whom Dr Pillay is the first candidate from Seychelles.

After finishing her O-levels at the Seychelles International School and then her A-levels in India, Miss Pillay joined Lady Hardinge Medical College (Delhi University) and completed her MBBS. LHMC is the only women’s medical college in Asia and stands sixth among the medical colleges in India. Thereafter she worked at one of the leading hospitals at Chennai and later joined the Seychelles Ministry of Health before proceeding for higher studies.

She would like to continue her service in Seychelles and wishes to thank her family and the Ministry of Health who have helped her to achieve this.
