Local aviation authority helps fight drunken driving |24 April 2015

The traffic section of the Seychelles Police has received two units of portable breathalyser machines to further help them in combatting drunken driving on our roads.

These much-needed equipment were donated by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) during a brief ceremony recently at their headquarters at Pointe Larue.

The breathalysers along with accessories which have been imported from Lion Laboratories in the United Kingdom have cost the SCAA about R96,000 and will definitely be of good use during the Carnaval International de Victoria which starts today.

These devices used by the police to measure the amount of alcohol in a driver's breath (blood) were presented to the Seychelles Police assistant commissioner Reginald Elizabeth by the SCAA’s general manager for airport management Patrick Hoareau.

Also present at the ceremony were the police chief superintendent Philippe Cecile and assistant superintendent Wilson Denis as well as the SCAA management team and staff.

Mr Hoareau said the aviation authority supports the work that is being done by the police to ensure that our roads are safer.
“At SCAA we have a zero tolerance policy with regards to alcohol consumption for our staff who are on duty,” he added.

The breathalysers will definitely help the traffic section to do their work more efficiently, Mr Hoareau said.

Mr Elizabeth thanked the SCAA for the breathalysers adding that the equipment will help them in their ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign.

He added that one of the kits will be sent to Praslin to be used as a deterrent for drunk drivers and also help maintain safer roads on this island as well.
