Full stop to child abuse! |25 May 2015

‘Child abuse…Full stop!! See it, Hear it, Report it.’ Such is the theme for this year’s Child Protecion Week which was officially launched yesterday in a colourful ceremony at the Paradis des Enfants.

The theme is stating that we all have an obligation to report suspected child abuse and neglect and that if we come to hear of or know or suspect that a child may be in need of protection, then we should contact a child protection agency such as social services, the police, National Council for Children etc, without delay.

“A family that plays together, stays together,” said education minister Macsuzy Mondon in her opening remarks at the launch ceremony yesterday.

Minister Mondon, who is also the chairperson of the National Council for Children (NCC), is encouraging parents, children and the general public to become aware of child abuse and to report it.
“That way children will be better protected and we can envisage a violent free Seychelles,” said Minister Mondon.

10-year-old Cyril Dina read  a poem entitled ‘Mon Spesyal’ to the guests at the launch ceremony which was attended by Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, NCC executive committee, ECCE trust fund members, partners in child protection, parents and their children.
