Youth assembly approves three motions |29 May 2015

The 12th Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) approved three motions during its second sitting held at the National House on Saturday.

Present at the sitting were the 26 members of the 12th SNYA who represent their respective districts and institutions, and past members who were there as observers.

The first motion tabled by Daniel Sanguignon and seconded by Jeanine Commetant was in support of the development of technology that is rapidly developing in Seychelles.
He also pointed out both the positive and negative sides of the mass development of technology.

The second motion, proposed by Rishianne Belise and seconded by Christelle Sedwick, was suggesting that the Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports takes necessary measures to provide security or to enclose all community playgrounds around Mahé.  This, she argued, is because a lot of indecent acts such as drinking of alcohol are taking place in those playgrounds.

She cited as example the Anse Aux Pins playground where children are being exposed to such acts and suggested that the facility is relocated.

The third and last motion was asking that the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) opens its doors to affiliated non-state schools so that they have members representing them on a rotation period on each assembly.

The motion was tabled by Darrel Uranie, the speaker of the 12th National Youth Assembly, and seconded by Jean Michel Camille.

A talk on child abuse was also conducted by Dr Erna Athanasius, the ambassador for women and children’s affairs; Sylvette Gertrude from social affairs and Emilie Gonthier from the Attorney General’s Office.
