Electricity tariff increases by 8 cents effective July 1 |01 July 2015

Electricity consumers in all sectors – domestic, industrial and commercial – will see an increase of eight cents in the tariff rate effective July 1, 2015.

This is because the weighted average fuel price charged to the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) by the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec) went up during the period March 16, 2015 to June 15, 2015.

Based on this fuel price increase, the chairman of the Seychelles Energy board, Wills Agricole, has announced the increase by eight cents to the electricity tariff rate effective July 1, 2015.

The increase of fuel prices during the period under review has a major bearing on PUC's operational and maintenance costs, hence the adjustment in next quarter electricity tariff rate.

Therefore, from the beginning of July 2015, bills hand delivered by meter readers will reflect the new rates for consumptions occurred from the effective date of the new tariff.
Like mentioned before, electricity prices will drop, rise or stay the same quarterly depending on the prevailing cost of fuel.

The last time such an announcement was made was last April 2015, when there was a reduction in electricity tariff rate by seventy-six (76) cents.
The next review will be announced in October 2015.
