Winners of national celebrations contests rewarded |06 July 2015

Winners of the various activities organised to commemorate the Constitution Day and the National Day this year received their prizes during a special ceremony at the Seafront Restaurant on Friday afternoon.

The National Celebrations Committee hosted the event which was graced by the presence of Vice-President Danny Faure, ministers and sponsors.

The various activities organised comprised public speaking competition for secondary and post-secondary schools, a national lottery and song competition. 

In the secondary school category of the public speaking competition first place went to the International School of Seychelles comprising Fedor Soloviev, Catarina Holst and Estelle Bonnelame. They received a laptop and LCD projector.

As second prize winners, the Anse Boileau team of Guyan Anthony, Sona Tsultrim and Stephy Barra won a desktop computer.

Third place went to the Beau Vallon school team of Bettina Azemia, Chloe Nicette and Beverly Hoareau. They won a CD player.

In the post-secondary school category the School of Advanced Level Studies team of Kwantema Simara, Stanio Sally and Kaicha Valentin won themselves a laptop and LCD projector as first prize.

The second prize comprising a desktop computer went to Terah Betsy, Gina Scholastique and Tiffany Chang Lai Seng of the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education while the team from the Seychelles Institute of Technology made up of Kelly Barbe, Herick Azemia and Rana Vital won a CD player as third prize.

In the national lottery the star prize -- a piece of land at Marie-Jeanne Estate on Praslin -- went to Philip Naiken. The piece of land has been made available to the National Celebrations Committee by the Ministry of Land Use and Habitat. 

As first prize winner, Jim Lesperance of Amitié, Praslin received a giant TV screen sponsored by Celullar services.

The second prize, a four-metre long fibreglass boat and engine sponsored by Cascade slipway, has been won by Francesca Gonzagues of La Misère.

The group Inison, comprising Antoinette Dodin and Judith Hoareau, is this year’s grand winner of the National Day song competition with their song entitled ‘Meyer plas enba lesyel’. They’ve received a cash prize of R50,000.

“Our song was written by famous singer Jean-Marc Volcy, and it’s about the colonial era, about how our culture was born to become the country that we are today,” the duet said.

The second prize went to Travis Julienne with his song entitled ‘Avan Tou’. He has pocketed a cash prize of R25,000.

The song ‘Mon Sesel’ by Simon Amade earned the singer a cash prize of R10,000 as third prize.  

There were also rewards for the group of artists who contributed towards the design of the Central Bank of Seychelles’ commemorative coins for this year’s National Day, which was being celebrated for the first time on June 29 alongside our Independece Day. The artists are Jude Ally, Patrick Camille, Carol Charles, Rebecca Finesse and Marcus Finesse. They received a tocken from the bank’s deputy governor Jennifer Sullivan.
