‘Our water, our choice’ - EbA project launches logo competition |27 July 2015

Vulnerability of our islands ecosystems and communities to climate change is the baseline for finding measures to adapt to the change. Seychelles is economically, culturally and environmentally vulnerable to the effects of climate change and associated extreme weather events. These effects and their associated impacts are projected to escalate in the future. The two biggest climate change vulnerabilities are fresh water scarcity and sea level rise. 

The Ecosystem Based Adaptation to Climate Change in Seychelles (EbA) project places emphasis on the need for community participation as well as stakeholder intervention to ensure the conservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of watercourses, ecosystems, and habitats in order to increase the capability to adapt to changes in temperature, precipitation, storms and sea level rise that affect watershed management and coastal protection.

The EbA project is launching a logo competition, open to participants of 16 – 24 years of age. Entries to the competition should explore the issues of water scarcity and flooding to showcase Ecosystem based adaptation in the Seychelles context.

Participants must ensure that their logo portrays the project’s goal for sustainable development in Seychelles and resilience to anticipated climate change effects. The winner will be awarded a prize of R5,000 and a certificate. The winning logo will thereafter be used on all educational materials to be published by the project, including on T-shirts, caps, posters and leaflets.

The deadline for submitting entries to the competition is August 20, 2015.
