New Qatari ambassador to Seychelles accredited |29 July 2015

A new ambassador of the State of Qatar to Seychelles has been accredited.

Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Abdulla presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House yesterday morning.

During their meeting President Michel and Ambassador Al-Abdulla discussed several areas of cooperation such as sports partnerships, housing projects, tourism, investment and aviation.

After the accreditation ceremony Ambassador Al-Abdulla presented a short written statement to the national media on issues he discussed during his meeting with President Michel.

“Qatar and Seychelles relations are based on the strong bonds of friendship and over 30 years of long lasting cooperation since the two countries established diplomatic relations in April 1984,” Ambassador Al-Abdulla said in the statement.

“Qatar is happy with the determination of the Seychellois people and the government in its past achievements and its future endeavors. Seychelles’ role in the maritime security in the region, the fight against piracy and championing the fight against climate change deserves strongly our respect and encouragement. It should not go unnoticed that Seychelles has experienced rapid and continuous economic growth. The discussion I had with President Michel is mainly based on existing cooperation and how to further develop them. We also discussed new avenues of cooperation namely in the finance sector, trade, investment and tourism,” Ambassador Al-Abdulla said in the statement.

He added that Seychelles and Qatar also hope to sign a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of the World Athletics Championships for People with Disabilities which will take place in Doha in October.

Present during Ambassador Al-Abdulla’s meeting with President Michel were the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan and the President's diplomatic adviser, Ambassador Callixte D’Offay.

Ambassador Al-Abdulla, who is based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the third ambassador of the State of Qatar to be accredited to the Republic of Seychelles.
