Specialised care to get big boost

The Anse Boileau health centre which provides health care to the western Mahé community has been adopted.

As a result of this adoption two specialised medical practitioners will be permanently based there.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to that effect was signed on Saturday between the Health Care Agency of the Ministry of Health and the Seychelles Indian Association.

The ceremony took place at the heath centre’s premises at Anse Boileau.

The association, which has adopted the centre for a period of two years, will provide two permanent specialists at the clinic – one for children and one for the whole family.

It will also be responsible for maintaining the building, which has already been repainted. Other renovation works have also been done.

The MoU was signed by the chief executive of the Health Care Agency Suresh Menon and the chairman of the Seychelles Indian Association Ramu Pillay.

The signing was part of activities to mark the third Seychelles-India Day.

Also present were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton; Minister for Health Mitcy Larue; co-partner in the Seychelles-India Day 2015 celebrations Minister Alain St Ange of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture; members of the National Assembly of Anse Boileau Bernard Arnephy and of Port Glaud Sultane Jacqueline; Indian high commissioner Sanjay Panda and other high officials of both the Ministry of Health and of the Seychelles Indian Association.

Reflecting on past event which she said helps us appreciate what we have or what we get from others, Minister Larue reminded all that it has been exactly one year when the country was celebrating the second Seychelles India Day celebrations, that the Seychelles Indian Association handed over a renovated Yellow Roof building at the Seychelles Hospital in Victoria.

“The work has changed the working environment of the clinic and made it more attractive and conducive to the staff,” remarked Minister Larue.

“Yet another milestone. The signing of this memorandum of understanding between the Health Care Agency and the Seychelles Indian Association, is a shining example of community participation in action,” said Minister Larue.

She remarked that the Seychellois nation is now truly fully engaged in a concerted effort to improve its health system and status.

She also made special mention of the two specialists who will be permanently based at the clinic which she said is a great help as it will ease pressure on such services at the Seychelles Hospital.

Minister Larue then urged the Anse Boileau community to work hand in hand with the centre’s health workers.

As for Mr Pillay, he said the signing was the biggest activity of this year’s Seychelles-India Day celebrations.

He said the association will improve the health centre both in terms of equipment and infrastructure.

“We want to make Anse Boileau clinic a modern clinic,” said Mr Pillay.

The guests then went on a tour of the freshly painted clinic.

Anse Boileau has the highest flow of dependence in the western part of Mahé and serves five districts.
