Seychelles-India Day 2015 - India’s Mysore Palace comes to Victoria |05 October 2015

The opening of a replica of the famous Mysore Palace of India at the Stad Popiler car park, followed by a grand gala concert by famous Indian musicians, performers and celebrity dancers inside the stadium on Saturday night highlighted the second day of celebrations to mark the third Seychelles-India Day.

It was Vice-President Danny Faure who had the honour of cutting the ribbons to officially open the palace to onlookers and admirers.

He was accompanied by Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange, Indian high commissioner to Seychelles Sanjay Panda and the chairman of the Seychelles Indian Association Ramu Pillay and committee members.

Mysore is a historical palace in the city of Mysore in Karnataka, southern India. It is the official residence and seat of the Wodeyars – the Maharajas of Mysore, the royal family of Mysore, who ruled the princely state from 1350 to 1950.

The palace houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting halls of the royal court) and incorporates a mesmerising and gigantic array of courtyards, gardens, and buildings. The palace is in the central region of inner Mysore, facing the Chamundi Hills eastward.

The opening was followed by a grand gala night inside Stad Popiler where a package of dance and music showcased the multi-faceted and spellbinding saga called ‘India’.

There were some amazing vocal performances by Nakash Aziz, Andrea Jeremiah, Haricharan,  Sakriti and Prakiti Kakkar, Shakthisree Gopalan and a fusion performance by Balabhaskar and Bennet & The Band. Dance performances by other Indian artists were also on the programme.

The rhapsody of music and dance thrilled the large crowd of people present that night, made up mostly of the Indian community.

The rhythmic Indian music and dances even drew some dancers out of the audience.

The Seychelles-India Day 2015 celebrations continued yesterday with a gala night featuring A. R. Rahman labeled as the Mozart of Madras. He is an Indian composer, singer, songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the show while our photo on front page depicts the magnificent replica of Mysore Palace.
