George Robert sworn in as new magistrate |10 October 2015

A new magistrate has been sworn in by Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey.

Magistrate George Emmanuel Robert took his oaths in a short ceremony at the Palais de Justice yesterday afternoon, in the presence of his family, other judges and magistrates, Supreme Court staff as well as his pupil-master Attorney Francis Chang-Sam.

Mr Robert who says that he has always inspired to be a judge, described the occasion as a remarkable achievement in his career. He has added that he is happy and ready to serve the people of Seychelles.

Originating from Takamaka in the south of Mahé, he was educated in Australia where he studied law and was called to the bar before practicing there at the beginning of his career. He then came back to Seychelles to join the Attorney General’s Office as a state counsel, before moving on to practice as a private attorney in Mr Chang-Sam’s chambers.

Mr Robert will be the fourth Seychellois magistrate working in the Seychelles Magistrates Court.
