Lions promote healthy living in Seychelles |26 October 2015

Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In humans it is the ability of individuals or communities to adapt and self-manage when facing physical, mental or social challenges.

To promote healthy living around the island, Lions Club International President Naresh Aggarwall has unveiled a health billboard at the Victoria bus terminal.

Present to witness the event were health minister Mitcy Larue, Lions Club International director for Africa Dr Manoj Shah, the president of Lions Club Seychelles Dr Valentina Seth, the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) chief executive Geffy Zialor, the chairperson of the ‘Health of Our Nation’ committee Patricia Rene, members of Lions Club of Seychelles, members of Leo Club of Seychelles, members of the ‘Health of Our Nation’ committee and Melvin Jones fellowship members.

Dr Aggarwal said we should all be aware of our health by promoting the theme that the Ministry of Health is using ‘My Health, My Responsibility. Begin at home’.

“This health billboard is very important as we shall be aware of our responsibility to take care of our health. Today we are all joining hands to promote the campaign of staying healthy. Lions Club wants to make people aware that a healthy lifestyle is one which helps to keep and improve people’s health and well-being,” he said.

Minister Larue said this ceremony is an important step forward for the Ministry of Health and the Lions Club of Seychelles.

“This ceremony is not merely the unveiling of one billboard, but also a celebration of the growing partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Lions Club of Seychelles and International Lions. This partnership is firmly grounded in our approach to health, as reflected in our national health policy,” she said

She added that the unveiling of the billboard is the start of a group effort in the ‘Health of Our Nation’ movement and health campaign.

“The unveiling of this billboard is but the start of collaboration in the ‘Health of Our Nation’ movement and health campaign. The Lions are supporting the Ministry of Health in many different areas and I now welcome your agreement to support our campaign throughout the coming year for ‘My Health, My Responsibility. Begin at home’,” the minister said.

The owner of the Pillay-R Group, Ramu Pillay, added that it is important to promote such campaign and that the billboard will surely be visible at the Victoria bus terminal where it can be noticed by everyone who come to take the bus.

The billboard of healthy living was unveiled by Minister Larue, Dr Aggarwall and Mr Pillay.

That same day Dr Aggarwall also met Minister Larue to discuss about how to provide a better eye clinic that will provide superior service in Victoria.
